Colonel Henry Steel Olcott

America 1832 - 1907

Comments: Buddhist modernist;Theosophist; Sri Lanka Independence fighter; family traces back to Thomas Olcott, one of the founders of Hartford, Connecticut, in 1636; Spiritualist; investigate accusations of fraud against the mediums Jenny and Nelson Holmes, who had claimed to materialize the famous "spirit control" Katie King (as reported by Arthur Conan Doyle 1926: volume 1, 269-277). Built Ananda College in Colombo, Dharmaraja College in Kandy, Mahinda College in Galle, and Maliyadeva College in Kurunegala; The Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor located it's wisdom in Ancient Egypt without much Egyptian symbolism, while the Theosophical Society located it's nexus of authority even further East, in India and Tibet, after 1st referring to Egypt in earlier works;
