Comments: Most of these books, or pamphlets, were cheap, poorly printed, and advertised in comics, mens magazines and Occult monthlies. Such names as Sepharial, Cheiro, Raphael, The Countess Zalinski were controlled by smart business men like Henri Gamache and William De Laurence disregarded copyrights and author royalties in search of more money for less. Even H. Spencer Lewis, the 1st Imperator of the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis (AMORC), made his fortune in this shadow advertising world. Eventually, the estates of these publishers sold the rights to their invented authors, and they are still used today in weekly magazines sold at the supermarket.
