How to Pronounce the Hebrew Today, there are at least two major dialects in Hebrew, Sephardic and Ashkenazi. Throughout the last 5,000 years there have been many more. The Bible was written over a period of centuries, and the Hebrew language continued to evolve during that time. While no one knows exactly how these Names and Words were pronounced in ancient times, I offer the pronunciation we use with the hopes that it might prove useful to you. I have tried to use recognizable transliterations of the Hebrew in English. As an aside, I was raised to speak Ashkenazi but most of America and the world's Jews now speak the type of Sephardic as pronounced in Israel.
